Disney Inspire Day 2013!

On October 3rd I flew down to California for Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Inspire Day. It was more magical than I could have ever hoped for!

After arriving in front of the iconic studio hat, we were treated to a free breakfast! Everyone was super friendly and the business card exchange began. After we were taken into the animation building’s theatre and given an in-depth look at the creation of a scene from Disney’s new feature Frozen! It was really amazing to see the evolution from visual development to modeling to lighting! What a great way to open the day!

After the presentation we had lunch with artists working at the studio in each of our areas of interest. I was put into the visual development group. For the next few hours we got to spend time with a bunch of artists in that field and get a portfolio review. I was able to meet Brittney Lee and get some advice from her! Meeting her was definitely a highlight of my day – nothing quite like meeting your art idols!

Then we were able to get a look at the new short Get A Horse! – which is lots of fun! You can really tell lot of love went into this short and I can’t wait to see it again! As if the day couldn’t get any better - to finish it off, we were treated to a sneak peak of Frozen! Obviously I can’t talk about what I saw but I am really impressed and the trailers do not do it justice. I literally can’t wait until November 27th to see it!

We were able to stay in California for an extra day and spent some time at Disneyland! SO MUCH DISNEY!

As cheesy as it sounds, it was probably one of the best days of my life. Being able to walk within the walls of the legendary studio was simply a dream come true. I’m so lucky I was able to visit and thankful for the opportunity. It couldn’t have come at a better time – I am now fully re energized to jump into my thesis film and inspired to push myself. Hopefully I'll get back to you soon, California.
